Kelp – The Organic Super Fertilizer
If you like to grow organically then you really need to think about adding kelp to your plant feeding regiment.
Kelp is seaweed that grows underwater and on rocky shores in cold water regions throughout the world. Kelp meal is a dry powdered version made from the dried kelp seaweed. It can be mixed with water and added directly to garden soil, or even sprayed onto plants. It can also be used in hydroponic systems, and can be added directly to the nutrient mix.
Kelp contains a potent combination of hormones, enzymes and nutrients that make them extremely rugged in harsh environments and grow extremely fast. This is the main reason it is such a great additive to your plants. You can find kelp meal online easily.
Although kelp only contains a small amount of N-P- K (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) it contains a high amount of micronutrients. Kelp also contains valuable vitamins that help increase yields, improve soil structure, reduce plant stress due to drought and aid in deterring pests.
Benefits of using Kelp
Increases Plant’s Immunity – Kelp provides powerful plant hormones, that will make your plant healthier and more resistant to pests disease. Kelp also contains some natural antibiotic properties, which can help in suppressing harmful bacteria. It makes a great foliar fertilizer.
Increase Nutrient Uptake – Certain compounds in kelp help facilitate the chelation of nutrients, making them much more bio-available. This allows nutrients to be absorbed more quickly and are much more effective in helping your plants thrive.
Stimulate Growth – One of the best features of kelp is that they are very rich in vitamins. These vitamins help provide your plant with the energy it needs to grow quick and strong. This can be particularly helpful while cloning, when vulnerable young cuttings are at risk.
Increases Yield – You will notice the effects of Kelp based fertilizers on your plants at harvest time. All those extra vitamins, enzymes and nutrients will help create larger, more abundant flowers which increases overall harvest yields. Flowers will have sweeter fragrances and will be richer in colour. Vegetables will be larger, plumper and have a more savoury flavour.
RECIPE:
Easy kelp meal tea:
